Sometime about 10 years ago, my dad visited the US. He is a frequent traveler, and he loves to fly so much, that he will never postpone any trip that’s already booked no matter what. That one time, it was so untimely he had his arthritis attack. He normally feels the pain on his legs and it can be on one or both, it can be swollen or not.
He was so determined not to postpone his trip. We ended arranging for disable assistance as he really wanted to fly as scheduled. I was still in the Philippines then. So, off he flew with arthritis pain and all; we went to send him off and see him whisked away on a wheel chair. He arrived in Hawaii in one piece, the arthritic pain almost all gone.
He came home after one month. My brother and I went to pick him up from the airport. To our surprise and disbelief, he was once again on a wheelchair. Right when he was coming out of the immigration area with the airport staff wheeling him out, we just saw that crazy, funny look on his face. That’s when we knew, it was a trick.
The old man(well, he wasn’t really that old) just didn’t wanna go through the usual check-in process and immigration hassle. He confirmed his return flight with the disable assistance still indicated. He went in and out of the airports hassle free and his luggage and carry-on taken cared for.
Now, isn’t that a travel trick? Wonder if we can still pull off the same trick. Remember, this was pre-9/11.
