Fire Safe
Pretty soon kids will be back to school. It’s the time of the year when parents whose children are going to college are on the hunt for that college dorm or apartment. Making sure that the new dorm or apartment where your children will be staying once school starts is fire safe, is very important.
It’s wise to check out the room as older buildings may not have upgraded wiring because when appliances are plugged in and the wiring is not equipped this can overload circuits. Of course, not to forget that smoke alarm should be installed and ensure it is equipped with batteries. Another warning sign are outlets that become hot to the touch. It is imperative to check outlets periodically.
Should the place be equipped with cooking appliances, and cooking is allowed, ensure that your children are briefed properly how to be fire safe in the kitchen. Use of fire-proof potholders and mitts, is a good first step. Not to forget about the ultimate foolproof fire safety measure, don’t walk away from the kitchen while something is coking.
