There are things we normally treat as garbage and often, we just relegate them to the garbage or leave them gathering dust on the drawers. We don’t realize there are options that we can do so they can be used and not wasted. Aside from the fact that we can help others by donating them, we also free up our storage spaces.
What do we do with sneakers that are worn down? We toss them in the trash. A better way to dispose them will be to send them to Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program because the rubber, fabric and even the foam can be recycled. They can be used as materials for soccer fields as well as basketball courts.
If you don’t fly frequently, and you have scattered miles accrued why not hand down the accumulated miles to the Red Cross? These miles donated to them will be useful in transporting volunteers to disaster areas.
This next one is actually very applicable to me and my husband. We have a lot of unused sunglasses and eyeglasses(we get a new pair every year just so we avail of our insurance plan). Now, I’m looking into donating them at UniteForSight.org. The specs will be sent out to some countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia.
Luggage and backpacks can also be handed down to SuitcasesForKids.org. There are drop off points, which you can check at their website.
