Travel season is here, and I’m probably posting this untimely as everyone gearing up to go on their summer break have already done their planning and booking. For general info, I am writing about it just the same. I myself is in the thick of things with travel planning right now. And as I weave through the different avenues, I must say that travel planning is such a complicated process as well as time consuming.
First, flexibility is key if you want to get great hotel rates, and that is taking into consideration that Saturday is normally the busiest day of the week. Upscale hotels offer the best deals on weekends, when business travelers are scarce, and budget chain hotels have the tendency to charge more on Friday and Saturday nights.
Comparing all the different vendors by checking travel sites is a must. At the same time checking out the prices directly with the hotel should not be put aside because there are hotels that offer the “best rate guarantee” which means they will beat the offer on travel sites. You should know how to bargain and speak up, you’ll be surprised you can get the deal of a lifetime.
Booking early or booking late is a good strategy, more so if you’re dealing directly with a hotel. Of course, when you book early, you might be able to lock in a deal. It works the same way when you book at the last minute(if there are vacancies) , but be prepared to have another option if the hotel is fully booked.
I will add more to these ideas as I learn more about obtaining the best hotel rates. Hopefully, I’ll get better each year as we continue traveling.
