We are all aware of how important soy is to our body, as there are mounting evidences that soy proteins and isoflavones does provide health benefits. Nowadays, it’s good that we have a lot of options in the form of soy pills, soy pasta, soy milk and even soy energy bars. In fact, there’s now even a vodka that is distilled from soy. The question though, is: can we tell how much soy is inside?
No, we can’t, as some soy food do not indicate soy content in the label at all, and when isoflavones are listed, they appear in different ways. Apart from that, the amount of isoflavones vary widely even among similar products specifically those energy bars. To make it even worse, some foods indicate meaningless claims. So, how do we pick the right soy product? I have no answer to that, but it’s best to use our common sense and take note of the isoflavone count.
