When I visited my Cardiologist last Friday, I was astonished to find out that my recent weight gain is not acceptable. I gained 8 pounds over the course of 5 months and he finds this too much. I’m being watched because of hypertension, having been diagnosed when I was 21. I didn’t think he was going to make a big deal out of it, but was I surprised. He thought at first, there’s a “life changing event” as he put it. But no, he’s wrong.
I have started my indoor walking a few weeks ago. Sad to say, I haven’t been diligent enough but now I have to ensure I follow through. Apart from that, in order to jump-start my weight loss plan, I have to consciously eat a healthy breakfast. I heard that having breakfast does prevent overeating later in the day. The harder step to implement will be my consumption of food that are low in fat content and high in fiber. It is rather hard to control and watch my intake on low fat food even if I have totally eliminated pork in my diet many years ago. I try to go for lean beef every time and skinless chicken has become the norm. Lastly, I will make sure I step on our scale regularly. I stopped weighing myself for fear of seeing what I don’t want to see. I knew I was gaining weight but maybe I was in denial.
We’ll see how I fare. I have to abide by my doctor’s requirement, because instead of seeing him in five months, he has put me back to four months. My laziness to walk has to stop. Wish me luck.
