The costs of electricity rises during the peak of the summer, when we need our central or room air conditioner to work overtime. There are ways though to keep our cooling costs down.
For instance, keeping the sun out and the heat from the sun by using shades, blinds and curtains keep the cool air in. Minimizing heat from other sources by turning them off such as lamps, TV’s and other heat producing items as well as using compact fluorescent lights that create less heat than incandescent bulbs will make a big difference. It also pays to run the dishwasher and other large appliances early in the morning or late evening when the use of electricity is lower and their heat has less effect on cooling. Lastly, a well maintained air conditioner makes a big difference. Ensure that the filter is replaced and exterior condenser as well as condenser coils clean.
