I can’t believe I’m writing about pencil skirt here. To be honest about it, I haven’t even worn a tailored piece in almost a decade. The skirts I’m used to wearing now are denim skirts, of course they’re not pencil.
When I used to buy off the rack pieces, I go for those that have a straight silhouette from hem to hip that I would bring to a tailor to peg the skirt to achieve a look that is narrow towards the bottom so I can have a more elegant look. However, when I discovered the beauty of having one custom made for me courtesy of my then favorite Designer: Edgar Madamba, I no longer bought off the rack pencil skirts.
If buying a piece off the rack, it helps to look for pieces that have Lycra in the fabric. It will give you a sleeker contour and the bonus is that it won’t bag at the rear. Believe me, there are pieces out there that will hug like a glove.
