Health Care Coverage: A Must

Posted on September 7th, 2008 | by User ImageJuliana |

Health care coverage is one of the biggest concerns here in America. If you are not covered, you’re as good as doomed. Yes, there is definitely free health care which the government provides, but I wonder what kind of service is extended to people who seek such freebie.

We’re lucky that we are covered under a health plan that does not require us to get referrals and we get billed only 10% of the total cost for each physician’s visit. More often than not, the physicians we go to don’t even bother billing us anymore. However, as we all know, nothing is permanent in this world. I already heard from my husband that there will be a lot of  big changes on our current coverage which will take effect next year. Enrollment period for next year is about to commence. I wonder if it pays to tell him about Kaiser Permanente California as I found out about their POS (Point of Service Plan) to be somewhat identical to what we currently have. That way, we won’t have to deal with too many changes.

Kaiser Permanente, is considered as the largest non-profit health maintenance organization. In fact, the California Office of the Patient Advocate has awarded Kaiser Permanente with its highest performance rating in the state for the past six years. But they not only service California, Kaiser Permanente Colorado is also offering the same wide range of health care options to residents there.

Having a primary care physician that knows you and your family is very important. This kind of arrangement is beneficial towards achieving your health goals. With the availability of Kaiser Permanente Georgia it means for the residents of Georgia covered under Kaiser Permanente, that they avail of a whole team of specialists and health professionals geared towards their preventative care and by helping them make wiser health choices.

Now, if only every health insurance company operates like Kaiser Permanente, no American would be left out without health coverage. If you care to know how they treat consumers as it is stated in their online portal, here it is and I quote:

We realize that no two companies, no two health conditions and no two individuals are exactly the same. Our goal is to assist you in making your decision that best meets your financial, lifestyle, and health care needs.

      I strongly disagree with that!

I have not had health insurance
for over 30 years, and I do not
      feel ‘doomed’. Aside from dental
care, I’ve only gotten medical care
twice in the last 20 years.

      Instead of paying for health
      insurance, I spend money on
      good quality food and nutritional
      supplements to maintain health.

      Earlier tonight I was reading,
      on another blog, an article
      about how much illness and
      death is actually caused BY
      medical treatment. The figures
      are VERY high!

Yes, I could be hit by a bus
anytime and be in trouble due
      to not having insurance. But
      I’m betting that’s not going
      to happen.

In the long run, ALL of us are
‘doomed’, as none of us get out
of here alive, no matter how
      much insurance we have.

      @ Jaya

First, I have to say that whatever that is written here are just my personal opinion and it’s okay if you don’t agree with my thoughts.

If I didn’t have health coverage, I will certainly feel that I’m doomed as I have been hypertensive since I was 21, and I have been closely watched by a breast oncologist since 2001.

You are lucky that for the last 20 years, you only needed medical care twice. That unluckily is not the same with me because of my current condition.

Just like you, we try to lead a healthy lifestyle via good food and supplements and opt to pay for health coverage at the same time for peace of mind.

Reality is, we will all go and none of us will stay alive, and yes, as you said we are all doomed in the long run but I don’t want to feel like I’m doomed while still alive.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your thoughts.
