I’m just shy of five foot-six, and I used to wear size 3 or 4 petite depending on the style, and that goes through for tops and bottoms. I used to think size 0 women were the only ones who should wear petites, but was I mistaken. Petite size run as high as size 20 Petite.
Who’s considered size petite? I found out that it is not so much about ones height, but it is all about proportion. Thus, if hemlines and sleeves as well as waists run long on ones body, and that goes through with coats and jackets overwhelming you, petite size may be a better option. Don’t let your look fool you, as some petite looking women may look better wearing regular sized clothing due to their long limbs and broad backs.
Now, don’t even start with me about finding the right fit for pants. Because of my big b***, I always find it very difficult to buy pants. That is why I love to shop at S- – -, I don’t have to keep going in and out of the fitting room to pick my size. When I get there all I do is fit the ones selected for me.
One thing’s for sure about off the rack clothing and sizes. Only a few of us perfectly conform to them. So if you want to have that perfect fit, there is no other way than to go for custom made clothes.

That’s interesting. I am 5’4″ and seldom wear petites, due to having disproportionately (at least according to clothing manufacturers) long legs. For the same reason people typically describe me as being 5’8″ tall or taller.

Tell me about it. I can never quite make the perfect fit and I see something in a shop but when I try it on I look something like a sack of potatoes or something else. I want to be able to make custom made clothes. I saw a beautiful Chiese Hanfu dress I want to wear for my Wedding!

@ christine
yes, those long legs gives the impression that you are much taller.
@ yanjiaren
wow, that is a great ting if you can create your own custom made clothing. I wish I can do that too.
That’s why I always thought it was funny when on line dating guys request “petite” woman. They don’t really get that it’s a broad range. It doesn’t just me short and small. I’m 5’6″ but because I carry so much muscle, t and a I’m a 10/12 in most clothes. Petite clothes never fit my chest or biceps.
@ Heather
really, they do request petites? obviously, they are not aware that it runs up to size 20.
