Have you observed the inches that some towels lose when they are washed?
It is a fact that some towels really lose inches in the wash. This is apparent because of the fact that manufacturers cut down on the use of what they call as softening chemical that lessens shrinkage. The sole reason is not because of profitability, but because this same chemical that limits shrinkage also make the towels less absorbent.
Many manufacturers now produce towels that are at least two inches longer than the standard size. This is aimed to compensate for the shrinkage when towels are washed.

hmmm… interesting!
i’ve been complaining about how my towels seem to be getting smaller every after wash because of their shrinking. thanks for sharing sis!

@ recel
you’re welcome, sis.
It’s good to know that they figured out the chemicals effect the absorbency. I have known this for a while and wondered why they didn’t just make them bigger. I haven’t bought new towels in a while, but I will be soon and this will be nice to know as I want some really big towels.

That explains why some towels never get really absorbent. I thought there was something wrong.

The problem I have with towels is that they don’t soak up the water period. They are so thick and soft that they seem to rub the water over your body instead of off the body. I’ve even gone to buying really cheap towels for this reason.

I would much rather have a towel that shrinks than a towel that doesn’t absorb!
@ holly
just don’t use too much fabric softener on your load of towels as it also affects the absorbency.
@ Jan
now you know. and also, don’t use too much fabric softener.
@ Martha A. Cheves
do you use a lot of fabric softener? I’m aware that using too much can affect absorbency too.
@ life moto
thanks.
@ desperate blogger
not sure about clothes, but maybe. we’re aware that there’s considerable shrinkage every washing more so if the clothes are 100% dried on a dryer.
@ Brenda
that’s so true.
