Seeking second opinion is an issue that we often take for granted. Such that, if we are comfortable with our current physician, even if our medical condition is not improving, we tend to stick it out.
However, even routine medical problems (i.e. uncontrolled hypertension, perhaps) need our full attention. Simply put, seeking a second opinion even under this circumstance can save us a lot of trouble – and it can save us, PERIOD.
Do not hesitate to go for second opinion in cases when we are told that we need to go under the knife (surgery), or have been recently diagnosed with a very serious illness. Apart from the two mentioned, it is a wise move to also seek second opinion when we feel that our doctor is stumped by our medical condition, or when we firmly believe that the kind of treatment we are getting is not working after a reasonable amount of time. Losing faith in ones physician or the inability to communicate properly with a current doctor can also be a good reason to start looking around. Still, some people who would like to try other approaches also find themselves searching for another M.D..
Are you in one of the situations stated above? If so, let the search begin.
