As far as heart health is concerned, we are aware about the fact that soft margarines and spreads undoubtedly top butter.
Yet, I still use butter whenever I bake. Bad, I know, but baked goods tastes better with butter.
When cooking, canola or olive oil are great choices. I have gotten used to the taste of these two already. Just make sure that you use plain olive oil and not extra virgin olive oil for frying because it has a higher smoke point than virgin or extra virgin olive oil which is excellent for salads. Butter blend, whipped butter or light butter in judicious amount is great for toppings or toast. They give buttery flavor with less saturated fat.
