Calcium And D

Vitamin D is equally important as Calcium in maintaining strong bones. It is however noted that the vitamin should not only to be taken as supplement but it can certainly be obtained from eggs, fatty fish, as well as fortified milk. Further, our body can also create it as a result of getting exposed in the sun. It is however recommended to people living in the north of 42 degrees latitude (from Boston to southern Oregon) to take supplementation of 600 to 700 IU of vitamin D during the winter, reason being that there’s not much sun exposure.

As for Calcium, I heard that we have to drink our milk. It’s been told time and time again that taking calcium rich foods is far better than taking supplements. Knowing fully well about this, I know that I can be deficient of  Calcium as I don’t drink milk other than the tiny bit that I pour in my coffee on top of my favorite coffee creamer.

This now made me think that I need to ask my Doctor about testing my Calcium levels on my next visit. It’s quite disturbing for me. For now, I have to concentrate on finding the current best rate for student loans. I need to forward this data to my friend’s daughter who is going to college by Fall of next year.

Thank you for some interesting tips.

Years ago there were quite a few cases of Rickets about (this is when the bones in the legs end up bow shaped through not enough Vitamin D in the diet). Apparently this disease is returning and more and more cases are being reported.

A useful little tip to increase the intake of calcium: …. sesame seeds not only contain Omega 6 and Omega 3 but masses of Calcium. They can be added to soups, stirfries, salads, breakfast cereals, cakes … the list is endless. So these can be eaten alongside milk, cheese and yoghurt.

    @ Polly

this is a great added info. thanks so much for sharing it here.

I’m not a milk and yogurt kind of gal, and knowing that sesame seeds are also rich in calcium through you then all the more I have the reason to keep toasting sesame seeds to sprinkle it to my favorite salad and cereals.
