Potluck Dish Prep

This holiday, going to parties and throwing parties will be the norm. Should you be having a potluck party, here are a few tips if you bring a dish to the party:

  • Garnishes should be packed separately in sealed plastic bags.
  • In case you’re preparing a casserole that can be frozen ahead of time, you can peruse this space-saving tip: Line a casserole dish with heavy duty foil, spoon in the mixture, cover and freeze until solid. You can then transfer the frozen food into a large self-sealing plastic bag and put it back in the freezer until it’s time to reheat. Unwrap and then slip back into the casserole dish before heating.
  • Frozen casseroles should be thawed overnight in the refrigerator to lessen reheat time. You have to keep in mind that it’s not safe to thaw on the counter.
  • If transporting cold food, it is important to pack it in a cooler, canvas tote or basket with ice packs.

I love your tips on freezing casseroles. This technique will be useful for Canadian moms who are doing food swaps. Food swaps is becoming popular here for busy moms. By cooking in batches, moms can have several meals from a one-time food preparation. They then barter these meals with other moms and get a variety of meals. A real time saver.
