With the hurricane landing and passing through our area Saturday night into Sunday, the telltale sign of the devastation can be seen all over the place. Power lines were downed, trees uprooted, homes damaged, flooded homes and streets, damaged vehicles, objects that I presume were flown by the strong winds are all over the streets (most noted of which was something that looked like dodge neon custom floor mats and dark streets due to loss of electricity.
The hurricane was totally unexpected although government agencies were on top of it. It was unexpected in the sense that hurricanes are not normal in the state of New York. However, with the fickle mind of mother nature, I guess nowadays, we should always be ready for any natural calamities.
I can only hope that this won’t be repeated in decades. This was my first experience of a hurricane and even my husband who was born and raised in New York noted that hurricane Irene was his first too. After this experience, I don’t think I will ever consider living in a hurricane prone area. It’s simply nerve wracking.
