Traveling this year has taken a back seat. While through the years, my husband and I normally take two vacations annually, this year, we didn’t have any so called vacation at all. Not that we didn’t fly anywhere as we did go to the Philippines in the second quarter of this year, but it was not a planned vacation at all.
Surprisingly, I was not at all in the mood to go ahead with our original vacation plan for this Fall which would have been somewhere in Europe. Unlike in 2008 when I lost my Dad in the summer of that year, I somehow managed to travel to Italy in the Fall as planned, but my Mom’s demise in April this year dampened my spirits altogether.
As it is, my husband has a couple of weeks of vacation days unused. The year is almost over, and if I continue with my disinterest in traveling, he might as well take the days and go for ‘stay-cation. ‘
Yes, I know it is not the best thing, but he has been understanding enough about what I have been going through. Once in a while though, he is floating the idea of going somewhere not that far so that he can unwind. He has been hinting at the idea of heading somewhere in the Cape, this time, local bound instead of going international. Getting a Cape Cod rental is one of his ideas. For once, he is filling in for what I would normally do – that is – vacation planning. It is such a refreshing change, because I know him to be so impatient with doing searches online, but he found an online portal for vacation rentals in that area and he finds it very user friendly. According from him, it’s just a matter of indicating his preference by clicking his mouse.
An update is certainly in order if this plan materializes. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll change my stand and go for it. The year is not yet over. Those unused vacation days are waiting to be perused.
