More than two weeks from now,Thanksgiving will be here. Considered as the biggest holiday here in the United States, families are now gearing up for the big day. This includes travel planning for those who will take the road or fly somewhere, and preparations for those who will host the big Thanksgiving dinner.
As for yours truly, I will be a guest at my sister’s house and this early, I’m browsing the net for unique sister gift ideas which will serve as the Hostess gift come Thanksgiving dinner. I’m veering away from the usual flower arrangement, that ubiquitous bottle of wine or champagne that every guests seem to love to bring to the Host/Hostess all the time. I want something unique and something that the Host/Hostess will enjoy even after the party is over.
I’ve always been a guest at Thanksgiving dinner for as long as I can remember. I wonder when I will be the Hostess. At this point, I haven’t volunteered and no one has ever dared ask me to host the big dinner. I guess, being the Hostess will only happen if I volunteer. Maybe someday – when I’m finally confident that I can make a great, savory turkey roast and have the guests talking about that particular Thanksgiving dinner as the best that they’ve been to in years.
With the Holidays just around the corner, do you plan to spruce up your home? I’m not referring to the usual Holiday decors and all the trimmings, I’m talking about re-decorating to totally incorporate a festive Holiday look.
I personally know several people in my family that changes their decors in keeping with the changing season. That involves a total make-over from draperies down to floor coverings a.k.a. area rugs.
Having said that, red rugs are definitely appropriate for the season. I’ve never had red rugs in my own home now that I’m a homemaker and my own interior decorator, but when I was still living in my parents’ home, we’ve had several Oriental rugs in red. It was a permanent fixture on some areas of our home, but I remember later on that my late Mom switched her preferred color palette to something more subdued and neutral.
Red rugs used as accent pieces or simply to anchor and define a room is a good idea especially for those who are somewhat afraid of colors. Red used in conjunction with a neutral palette brings warmth to any room, I believe. Just take a look at the pic below.
I’ve never been to a formal interior decorating class but I’ve immersed myself into many decorating books through the years. Besides, I’ve had the chance to work with an Interior Designer when we renovated our place seven years ago, and I learned a lot from that experience. Though it involved intense discussions and many conflicts along the way, the awesome end result was all worth it.
There are hard and fast rules in decorating, and we all know that, but the precise use of coordinating color palettes, fabrics and materials can always be tweaked to accommodate personal preferences. After all, it is the opinion and preference of the people that live in the space is the only thing that matters.
Our trip to Ireland in the Fall of last year introduced me to a whole new world of traditional and modern Celtic jewelry. It was not only an introduction, it also got me reacquainted with my renewed passion for collecting jewelry. I must admit that for the past few years, I had no desire to add any piece to my existing collection. Since September last year, however, I had accumulated an impressive quantity, as if I had to catch up and make up for all those years when I allowed my jewelry box wanting for additional new pieces.
I’m back and I think this time I will not astray. I’m actually taking jewelry connoisseurship seriously and my interest for gems and metals at this point is more than enough for me to consider going to school for it.
It’s amazing what traveling can do to an individual. It was in Dublin while my husband and I was inside a landmark jewelry store looking at Celtic jewelries that woke up my interest. The wide range of traditional and modern Irish jewelry designs on display made us linger in the store longer. Needless to say, I walked away with a bracelet which not only represent a fabulous vacation but also a reminder of my renewed passion for jewelry collection.
While I’m a self-confessed shop-a-holic of anything and everything nice and fabulous, it is my renewed passion for jewelry collecting that I’m not putting any restrain on, for as long as we can afford it. Why? Because my husband and I believe that these pieces are part of our investment. We are both in unison with the thought that – we have to spend money to make money.
I have short and skimpy lashes. However, with the aid of my trusty eyelash curlers and the one and only mascara that can make my lashes look like I naturally have 2 inches of lashes (okay, that is an exaggerated statement), mine looks awesome when the two aids are in place.
Perhaps I should look into eyelash growth products reviews. Who knows, my lashes are not hopeless after all. For as long as I can remember, they have always been short and skimpy. But with the promise of longer lashes and to finally be ‘divorced’ from my eyelash curlers and mascara, it may be worthwhile to look into it.
Has any of you tried one of those magic potions? I’d like to know.
Trying it for myself may be the best way to go. If I rely on other people’s experience and not try it out for myself, I will never know for sure. I’m not ashamed to admit that I can be very vain, and I try anything that comes with a good promise. I believe that when there is no pain there is no gain. Isn’t it like that anyway in this life?
