London On My Mind

It’s been almost eight years since my husband and I visited London. I didn’t even realize that it’s been that long. This year has been a lackluster year for travel for us by choice, as we only had one international travel, but the travel bugs that we are, I’m sure that it will be a different story in 2012.

Last year’s destination for us was Monaco, the French Riviera and Ireland. Our trend indicates the common denominator – Europe. Yes, we are determined to see every European country that are interesting to us. One place I wouldn’t mind going back to however, is London. And next year’s London Olympics might just be the perfect time to visit again.

With that in mind, thorough travel planning and a well thought out itinerary is imperative. Being the travel planner in the family, and knowing how husband and I are very particular with accommodations, I should really start looking into possible accommodations this early. Add to that the allure of the Olympics, I’m pretty sure that getting the best Olympics 2012 accommodation will be a race among many who are planning to be there in time for all the festivities. With  this most awaited sporting event being held within the Greater London area, it will make more sense to incorporate in the plan and secure one of the London apartments within a stones throw away for accessibility.

If we push through with this travel plan, I wouldn’t mind going back to see the Crown Jewels of England at the Tower of London. This time, I’m sure I’d be more interested and keen on looking at the pieces because of my recent interest and passion for gems and jewels lately. And how can I not miss the traditional fish and chips? Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Last but not the least, I want to go shopping for essentials from my favorite store that is nowhere to be found here in the United States – that is Marks & Spencers.

It’s never an easy job to plan for a vacation. It requires meticulous planning, but for a destination like London, the option to peruse online portals like that of – HomeAway.co.uk that specializes in offering great Holiday rental properties makes travel planning a lot easier.

Everything sounds great and good in writing. Now, let me first ask for my ‘financier’s’ approval so this plan will come into fruition.

Red: Juvenus

I’ve been looking into this line from Shu Uemura. I’m a big fan of their Cleansing Oil but should I decide to try this, it will be the fist time. Has anyone tried this before?

He Loves PacMan

If I want to see my husband unleash the kid in him, all I have to do is get him to go with me to a fun and family center where arcade machines are housed.

It was such a big surprise to me more than twelve years ago, when I discovered his passion for Pac Man. Yes, that famous, landmark and well loved Pac Man arcade game that originated in the 80′s. It is in fact considered as an icon and one of the classics,  and known to be synonymous with video games.

To this day, he is still passionate with the game. He does play it online whenever he has the time and he get his big thrill from doing so. He actually has this grand idea, and he is considering getting a Pacman arcade machine gaming table so he can enjoy his Pac Man in style in the comfort of our home. Going as far as customizing the gaming table is included in his plan. With his very hectic schedule though, I wonder if the cost of acquiring the machine will be more than worth it if he doesn’t find the time to play. I’m saying this only because I am no player,  I’m not into any kind of arcade games and never will be. I love to read – that’s just it.

I wouldn’t mind having the gaming table here at home though. It will make for a great conversation piece for when we have guests over and finally my framed wedding gown will graduate from that role.  Beyond that, it will also be a good entertainment alternative.

Thanksgiving And Me

More than two weeks from now,Thanksgiving will be here. Considered as the biggest holiday here in the United States, families are now gearing up for the big day. This includes travel planning for those who will take the road or fly somewhere, and preparations for those who will host the big Thanksgiving dinner.

As for yours truly, I will be a guest at my sister’s house and this early, I’m browsing the net for unique sister gift ideas which will serve as the Hostess gift come Thanksgiving dinner. I’m veering away from the usual flower arrangement, that ubiquitous bottle of wine or champagne that every guests seem to love to bring to the Host/Hostess all the time. I want something unique and something that the Host/Hostess will enjoy even after the party is over.

I’ve always been a guest at Thanksgiving dinner for as long as I can remember. I wonder when I will be the Hostess. At this point, I haven’t volunteered and no one has ever dared ask me to host the big dinner. I guess, being the Hostess will only happen if I volunteer. Maybe someday – when I’m finally confident that I can make a great, savory turkey roast and have the guests talking about that particular Thanksgiving dinner as the best that they’ve been to in years.

A Splash Of Red

With the Holidays just around the corner,  do you plan to spruce up your home? I’m not referring to the usual Holiday decors and all the trimmings, I’m talking about re-decorating to totally incorporate a festive Holiday look.

I personally know several people in my family that changes their decors in keeping with the changing season. That involves a total make-over from draperies down to floor coverings a.k.a. area rugs.

Having said that, red rugs are definitely appropriate for the season. I’ve never had red rugs in my own home now that I’m a homemaker and  my own interior decorator, but when I was still living in my parents’ home, we’ve had several Oriental rugs in red. It was a permanent fixture on some areas of our home, but I remember later on that my late Mom switched her preferred color palette to something more subdued and neutral.

Red rugs used as accent pieces or simply to anchor and define a room is a good idea especially for those who are somewhat afraid of colors. Red used in conjunction with a neutral palette brings warmth to any room, I believe. Just take a look at the pic below.

I’ve never been to a formal interior decorating class but I’ve immersed myself into many decorating books through the years. Besides, I’ve had the chance to work with an Interior Designer when we renovated our place seven years ago, and I learned a lot from that experience. Though it involved intense discussions and many conflicts along the way, the  awesome end result was  all worth it.

There are hard and fast rules in decorating, and we all know that, but the precise use of coordinating color palettes, fabrics and materials can always be tweaked to accommodate personal preferences. After all, it is the opinion and preference of the people that live in the space is the only thing that matters.
